Accessible Customer Service Plan
Providing Services to Visitors with Disabilities
Turnbull School is committed to excellence in serving all visitors including those with disabilities who enter our facilities, including awareness, understanding and asking ‘How can I help’.
Communication
We communicate with visitors with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability. Our Accessibility Plan is available to anyone who requests it at both our front office and school office.
Accessibility of our facilities
All areas of Turnbull School are accessible via paved pathways, and assistance is provided to any individual needing an alternate route.
Service Animals
We welcome visitors with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals are allowed in the areas of our premises that are open to the public.
Support persons
A visitor with a disability who is accompanied by a support person may have that person accompany them on our premises in areas that are open to the public.
Notice of temporary disruption
In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption of access to our facilities, e.g. an area is closed for cleaning, we clearly post a notice which includes information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time if applicable, and a description of alternative facilities, if available. The notice is placed at the access points to these areas.
Training
Turnbull School provides training to all staff members and others who interact with the public or other third parties on our behalf. Upon hiring, all staff must complete the online Serve-Ability: Transforming Ontario’s Customer Service and submit a declaration of completion.
Training will include:
- An overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the requirements of the customer service standard
- Turnbull School’s plan related to the customer service standard
- How to interact and communicate with visitors with various disabilities
- How to interact with visitors with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of as a service animal or a support person
- What to do if a visitor with a disability is having difficulty in accessing Turnbull School’s services
Staff training is updated as needed when changes are made to Turnbull School’s plan.
