About the program
Children best acquire scientific knowledge through experimenting, manipulation and exploration with science materials. We promote children’s natural curiosity for the scientific world through interactive, hands-on learning, offering many opportunities for experiments, labs and exploration. STEM components of the science program include the scientific research process, experimentation process and the engineering design process. Turnbull students graduate very motivated and with the advanced competence to pursue sciences.
What students will learn
Laboratories & resources
- Learning is enhanced with the use of modern equipment and specialized resources.
- Small class sizes ensure each student receives hands-on support and an enriching experience.
- Senior School students explore science in a modern and dedicated science lab.
Problem solving & inquiry
- Students develop strong problem-solving strategies and are encouraged to question, explore, and learn beyond the classroom.
- Science lessons foster curiosity and motivate students to connect concepts to real-world situations.
Science fair & competitions
- A school-wide Science Fair celebrates student innovation and learning.
- The experience begins with introductions to exciting labs for the primary students. The program evolves to having our senior students use the scientific method to create lab reports as part of overall projects that are presented to several outside judges at the Turnbull School Science Fair.
- Many of our grade 7 and 8 students excel at the Regional Science Fair, with top performers advancing to the Canada Wide Fair to earn high honours and awards.
