About the program
The Arts are a vibrant part of our curriculum, allowing students to explore creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking through Visual Arts, Music, and Drama. From playful beginnings in Kindergarten to more advanced projects in Grade 8, students engage in meaningful artistic experiences that integrate technique, history, culture, and personal expression. Our program fosters confidence, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
What students will learn
Visual Arts
- Explore two and three-dimensional art through a variety of materials, media, and techniques.
- Learn about design elements, principles, and famous artists from Canada and around the world.
- Develop critical observation skills and the ability to reflect on personal and peer artwork.
- Experiment with creative processes, including sketching, watercolour, sculpture, perspective, and digital art.
- Express ideas, feelings, and concepts through individual and collaborative projects.
Music
- Develop musical skills through singing, instrumental instruction, and ensemble work.
- Explore rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, and musical expression.
- Study music theory, composers, and the history of music in engaging, hands-on ways.
- Participate in choirs, ukulele, or band programs, performing in concerts and school events.
- Build teamwork, discipline, and confidence through individual and group performances.
Drama
- Build self-confidence, teamwork, and communication skills through acting exercises and theatre games.
- Develop voice, body language, facial expression, improvisation, and character development.
- Explore storytelling, role-play, and performance techniques in a supportive environment.
- Learn to analyze, critique, and appreciate drama as both performers and audience members.
- Present short skits, monologues, or plays, applying learned skills to creative projects.
