Turnbull
Athletics

To complement our daily physical education program, we run a robust intramural program as well as an extensive extracurricular program that represents Turnbull School, proudly known as The Turnbull Tornadoes in competition with other schools.

Intramurals

The Intramural sports program promotes participation and inclusion for all students, while supporting a healthy level of friendly competition among the students. Intramurals are run over the lunch hour, where students sign up to participate in a wide variety of sports and games. At the end of each session, a new activity starts, where students can choose to sign up again, and new teams are made. This model also promotes leadership opportunities for our Senior students in helping to organize and deliver the intramural program to the Primary and Junior students. A highlight in the program is the staff versus students games.

Turnbull Tornadoes

Being part of a Turnbull Tornadoes team is a wonderful way for students to challenge themselves, build strong friendships, and show their school spirit. The Tornadoes program is designed to provide more competitive athletic opportunities for our students. Our teams are dedicated groups that practice together twice a week during period eight and after school until 4:00 p.m.

Participating in advanced play with other schools as a member of a Turnbull Tornadoes school team, in sports such as soccer, cross-country running, basketball, hockey, badminton, smash ball, triple ball, track and field, Ultimate, and flag rugby develop in our students a healthy understanding of sports competition, both team and individual, and its value in developing cooperative skills, leadership and self-confidence while promoting good sportsmanship.

As a member of the Ottawa Independent Schools Athletic Association (OISAA), our athletes get the exciting opportunity to compete in local games, exhibition matches against schools in Ottawa and Montreal, and even head out on special overnight trips.
